The latest seasonal allocations for June 2024 have been announced by the Storage Manager.
Below average rainfall totals were recorded across Grampians storages during May, with monthly rainfall totals between 12.6 mm and 26.6 mm recorded. These monthly rainfall totals were well below the historic average for each storage. Persistent dry catchment conditions limited inflow during May to 58 ML. Increasing the year-to-date inflow to 52,245 ML or 28.6% of the historic average to the same time of year (182,500 ML).
Allocation to Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline Product entitlements remained at 87%, the Glenelg River Compensation Flow and Wetlands entitlements remain at 49%, and the Recreation entitlement remains at 46%. No allocation has been made to the Commonwealth Environmental entitlement.
A revised system reserve rule came into effect in 2022/23, with 45,000 megalitres now in reserve. The revised rule shares the available water between entitlements and the system reserve as soon as allocations commence. The resource improvement has also allowed for a 25% allocation to the Glenelg River Compensation Flow and Wetlands entitlements (2% increase), as well as a 20% allocation to the Recreation entitlement (1% increase). No allocation has been possible yet to Commonwealth Environmental entitlement.

This has been sufficient for a 79% allocation to be made to Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline Product entitlements this month. The resource improvement has also allowed for a 23% allocation to the Glenelg River Compensation Flow and Wetlands Entitlements, as well as a 19% allocation to the Recreation entitlement. No allocation has been possible yet to Commonwealth Environmental entitlement.

The Storage Manager has released its Annual Operating Plan for the 2023-24 water year. The plan contains an appendix that specifically looks at reservoir projections under different inflow scenarios. These projections may be updated each quarter through out the year.

The latest seasonal allocations for July 2023 have been announced by the Storage Manager. This is the first allocation announcement of the 2023-24 year.
Inflow to reservoirs during June was approximately 140% of average. Inflow received over recent months combined with the system reserve volume established in 2022-23 has enabled the highest ever opening allocations since completion of the Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline in 2010.
Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline Product entitlements have opened the year with a 61% allocation this month. The Glenelg River Compensation Flow received a 5% allocation, Recreation 3%, and Wetlands entitlement 4%. No allocation has been possible yet to Commonwealth Environmental entitlements. In addition, a total of 20,000 megalitres has been allocated to the system reserve for the next water year.
